Measurement standards for Healthcare Facilities

In the Mixed-Use Properties Standard (ANSI/BOMA Z65.6-2012), on page 74, the manual recommends for Hospitals to use “Gross Area (see note 2)”. The note 2 refers to other organizations that publish measurement standards and the Joint Commission on Health Care Organizations pertains to hospitals. There is also a book on the BOMA site “Developing, Leasing and Managing Healthcare Facilities in an Evolving Healthcare Environment” that touches on the topic of leasing.
What would be the recommended standard to breakout individual spaces for larger health care facilities?

Hi Annie,

Currently, there is no BOMA measurement standard specifically for measuring healthcare facilities; however, we have applied the 1996 and 2010 Office Standard successfully before. This is probably your best option for capturing individual spaces in the building.
